At eupgrader we are all about convergence, or I should say useful convergence. Digsby is an effective way to pull all your online communications together. These days we are communicating via IM, Text Messages, our personal email, work email, Facebook, Myspace… and we have to login and use each of these independently. Digsby is a desktop application that allows you to use all your IM accounts, check all your email accounts, monitor your social networking accounts and send text messages all from one place.
Digsby gives you One combined buddy list for all your AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber Accounts. You can give your buddies meaningful aliases so you will see "John M" and "Dad" instead of trying to tell the difference between "FingerMasTer90" and "FingiNator9O". You can even send text messages to your friends cell phones from Digsby.
The email integration allows you to check all of your webmail, POP and IMAP accounts from Digsby. When you receive a Gmail or a yahoo message, just click on the notification and it will open up the webmail window and auto-login.
Probably the best feature is the Social Networking integration. I have some friends that use Myspace and some that use Facebook and many of them have forsaken the other, so I have to maintain both accounts to keep up on everyone. Digsby will notify you of comments, messages, friends requests for both sites and the InfoBox will give you real time updates of what’s going happening on your friends pages, eg. new photos, blog posting, birthdays… Currently only Facebook and Myspace are supported but more are on the way.
Digsby is free and in public beta. For info on more features and to sign up go to www.digsby.com.
