Eat Up

No these are not from Jeffery Dalmer’s pantry, they are from Kittiwat Unarrom’s art studio and unlike Dalmer’s delicacies, these are actually edible because they are made of bread and not human flesh.  Unarrom is a fine art student and the son of a baker who has combined these two disciplines to create these intrepidly disturbing baked goods.  As he explains…

“Of course, people were shocked and thought that I was mad when they saw the works. But once they knew the idea behind it, they understood and became interested in the work itself, instead of thinking that I am crazy.”

But what’s the big idea?

"Everyone’s life is rushed nowadays, even when it comes to eating," he said. "When we eat, we don’t think about our health or safety, we only think of our taste buds."

As an undergraduate art student, Kittiwat started painting portraits. He then moved to mixed media and finally dough, his family’s preferred medium.  Along with the gruesomely realistic human heads, he also makes a whole menu of body parts and organs.  His muses are anatomy books and his memories of visits to the forensics museum which he turns into art/food/oddities with dough, raisins, cashew nuts, and chocolate.

“When people see the bread, they don’t want to eat it. But when they taste it, it’s just normal bread. The lesson is ‘don’t judge just by outer appearances.”

All his gory gourmet creations are on display and for sale at his studio / bakery / mortuary in Ratchaburi, Thailand where he is now receiving regular orders.  While I cannot see myself taking a bite and keeping it down, no matter how tasty they might be… to each their own.

Aside from making a statement, here’s some other ways his art is an UPGRADE…

  • His breads would make a perfect snack to munch on when your on a crowded subway and want some space.
  • They would make a killer alternative for a dinner party gift when the last Chocolate Babka is taken.
  • A twisted yet tasty response to someone asking "give me a hand"
  • His bakery is a great way to get a head
