Everyone’s buzzing about the latest "iPhone Killer", the Nokia Tube.  First off let me say I hate the term "iPhone Killer".  There hasn’t been a single phone that has even come close to matching the iPhone’s stature as the Tickle Me Elmo of mobile phones and yet that term is already over played.  Nokia released just a few details yesterday at the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference in Redwood City.  Essentially following the iPhone’s form factor the Nokia Tube makes a couple of improvements.

The Griffen ClearBoost for your iPhone

Griffins new ClearBoost add on antenna boosts your iPhone’s reception.  It gives you more bars in more place with fewer dropped calls.  This sounds like a T-mobile commercial, but maybe this will actually deliver on the claims.  The ClearBoost is in the form of a durable polycarbonate  case for your iPhone, effectively protecting it from bumps and scratches while eliminating the cool sleekness of the iPhone.  While most of us bought the iPhone partly because we don’t like antennas, actually being able to make calls is a fair trade off for those who live out in the boonies. 

Sprint’s Answer to the iPhone - the Samsung Instinct

Samsung’s Instinct for Sprint Wireless is the first iPhone competitor to be released in the US market.  Coming in June, the Instinct will boast an iPhone like look and feel… sleek design, a touch screen, and visual voicemail… but it will host a few unique and long awaited features including high speed Internet over the EVDO network, full GPS navigation, Sprint TV and a customizable interface.  Out of the box, the Instinct comes with a 2GB microSD card that can be upgraded to 8GB.  Some other features include Corperate & personal email integration, Stereo Bluetooth 2.0 and a 2 MP Camera.

A Cell Phone Watch That’s Not That Ugly…

image CeBIT 2008: General Mobile unveiled it’s latest mobile phone, the M500 watch phone.  We are always trying to consolidate all our gadgets, camera, mp3 player, GPS, personal organizer, all into our phone.  Now lets jam em into our watch.  We’ve seen this before, to the point where we cringe when we here about a cell phone watch, but this is the most elegant implementation yet.  It’s actually not half bad looking!

Almost Green Cell Phone - The Nokia 3110 Evolve

The new Nokia 3110 Evolve is Nokia’s “environmentally friendly” phone. Made of 50% recycled material and in packaging made of 60% recycled material, this phone is not completely Green, but it is a start. Nokia’s Evolve also boasts a charger that delivers power at 94% below the Energy Star recommendations.

This is part of Nokia’s larger environmental initiative which focuses on sustainable products practices and behavior.

The phone’s features are not bad, roughly middle of the road…
